2021 - Vox Populi (Philadelphia, PA)
This short film was presented in the installation “THEY SAY THEY KNEW”. This film showcases my work as director, cinematographer, editor, and choreographer. In this piece, I delve into themes of confinement, restraint, isolation, loneliness, and shame, accompanied by the powerful score "Gay Guerrilla" by Julius Eastman. The dancer’s movements, often at odds with or cutting through the music, evoke a sense of anxiety and intensity, pulling the viewer into the emotional heart of the performance. The film uses three central materials—fabric, rope, and chicken wire—to represent isolation, confinement, and restraint. Key moments show the dancer struggling with a closet, which is ultimately destroyed as the artist reclaims their space.
